MANILA, Philippines — On Monday, January 10, DOH reported a massive increase in COVID-19 cases. It recorded 33,169 new infections in the country. This is also the third day that the Philippines is witnessing record-breaking cases.

Due to this daily increase, the total number of active cases nationwide is now 157, 526. This also ramped up the total number of cases to 2, 998, 530 since March 2020.
DOH reported that 97.1% of the cases are either mild or asymptomatic. They specified that 147, 912 showed mild symptoms while 4,994 were asymptomatic. 2,858 were classified as moderate cases, 1,461 as severe, and 309 as critical. They also relayed that the positivity rate is now at 46%.
DOH also recorded 3,725 patients’ recoveries, granting a total of 2,788,711 total recoveries. On the other hand, 145 patients passed away increasing the overall death toll to 52,593.
The health agency previously warned that rising cases might point to a high possibility of Omicron variant transmissions.
