MANILA, Philippines — Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Chairman Jose Luis Martin “Chito” Gascon has passed away, losing his fight with COVID-19.
His brother, Miguel Gascon confirmed the CHR chairman’s death in a facebook post early Saturday morning.
CHR spokesperson Jacqueline De Guia also confirmed Gascon’s passing in a text message to INQUIRER.net.
“Yes, he passed away,” she said.
During President Benigno Aquino III’s term in 2015, Chito Gascon was appointed as the Commission on Human Rights chairman. His term will expire on May 2022.
