MANILA, Philippines — Saturday, October 2, 2021, Senator Bong Go filed his COC to run for Vice President in the 2022 national elections. In the same event, President Duterte also announced his retirement from politics.

Go has long been in Duterte’s service; he started out as Duterte’s aide when the latter was still the Davao City Mayor. Following that, he became Duterte’s special assistant with authority over the Presidential Management Staff (PMS). Then in 2019, Go began his senatorial position.

Prior to filing his COC, Go was nominated by Cusi’s PDP-Laban Wing as its presidential nominee. This was beside Duterte who previously accepted the nomination for VP. But after Duterte’s declaration of retirement, Go said that he is no longer interested in running for President.

“Given that President Rodrigo Duterte decided to withdraw his acceptance of nomination, I am here to take on the challenge as PDP-Laban’s Vice Presidential candidate,” Go expressed after filing his COC.
