MANILA, Philippines– The Philippines on Friday received 1.5 million more doses of China’s Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines as the country seeks to ramp up its immunization efforts.

This brought to five million the total number of COVID vaccines received by the Philippines, with two million more AstraZeneca jabs expected Saturday. This compares to the target to immunize 50 million people this year, each with two doses.

The procured Sinovac vaccines were flown from China via Cebu Pacific and were received by COVID-19 vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. and Health Sec. Francisco Duque III, according to the National Task Force on COVID-19 response.

So far, the country’s COVID-19 vaccination program has covered health workers, senior citizens, and has spilled over to individuals with co-morbidities.
