Conor McGregor Detained While on Romantic Vacation

CORSICA, France — Conor McGregor’s romantic vacation in the south of France has been put to stop when he was taken into police custody and questioned on allegations of attempted sexual assault and indecent exposure, Thursday.

McGregor, a mixed martial artist and boxing superstar, was detained for two days. He was later on released without charge, but the case has not been closed, and there may be further action.

French police can hold a suspect for an initial period of 48 hours before having to apply for an extension to custody, charge them, or release them.

‘The suspect was arrested and placed in custody by the judicial authorities,’ said a spokesman for the Bastia prosecutor. ‘He was released on Saturday.’

An investigating source later revealed that the claims about Conor McGregor relate ‘to an incident involving a young woman in a bar in Calvi very late last Sunday evening,” said the Daily Mail.

McGregor, whose nickname is “Notorious,”  has denied the allegations — the details of which have not been released — and had not been charged as of late Saturday, according to the New York Post.

Emmanuelle Ramon, the fighter’s French lawyer, called the complaint against McGregor “abusive.”

But authorities in Corsica contend it is the former two-division UFC champion who they believe was abusive.

“Following a complaint filed on September 10 denouncing acts that could be described as attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition, Mr. Conor Anthony Mac Gregor was the subject of a hearing by the gendarmerie services,” prosecutors said in a press statement.

“I am irate and putting out a warning loud and clear: Conor McGregor is not and will not be a target for those seeking to score a headline or a payday.”

McGregor has been on holiday in Corsica with his girlfriend, Dee Devlin, and their two children and has been staying on his £3million yacht, locally named as the ‘Dave Ocean’, which is moored close to Calvi, the upmarket port town in the north of the island.

In Corsica, McGregor was preparing to take part in a 180-kilometre, 24-hour charity water bike race from Calvi to Monaco.

Princess Charlene of Monaco would have been alongside him to help promote water safety, but McGregor has now been forced to withdraw.
