SOGOD, SOUTHERN LEYTE — Amid differing endorsements from members of the Duterte family, senatorial candidates Atty. Jesus “Jayvee” Hinlo and Dr. Richard Mata are calling for unity behind a shared senatorial slate dubbed “DuterTEN.”
Speaking at a press conference, Hinlo acknowledged that Vice President Sara Duterte, former President Rodrigo Duterte, and Mayor Baste Duterte have each endorsed different candidates. However, he stressed that all three agree on a core group of ten candidates.
“What’s important is that the Duterte family is united in saying the ‘DuterTEN’ should win,” Hinlo said.
Dr. Richard Mata, newly adopted into the PDP-Laban senatorial slate, echoed the sentiment. “We respect VP Sara, FPRRD, and Mayor Baste. But we need to remain solid behind our ten candidates,” Mata said.
Mata also highlighted how his campaign, centered on healthcare reform, has been energized by his formal entry into the party. Known for his 2.7 million-strong social media following, Mata emphasized that he joined PDP-Laban through the proper process and not through political shortcuts.
His platform includes overhauling PhilHealth, improving hospital access, and tackling long-standing healthcare inefficiencies.
Hinlo, the only PDP-Laban senatorial candidate from the Visayas, reaffirmed his critique of the current administration’s lack of direction—particularly in agriculture. He pushed for a government-led farming and fishing system, and an education overhaul focused on values, not just academics.
As he concluded, Hinlo emphasized his commitment to regional representation: “I am the only senator who will truly represent the Visayas.”
